BgMetrics - Manually Editing Food Listings

With the food listing tool it is now possible to point and click updates to your meal data. It is not a perfect system but we have added the ability to add a full meal of information to the FoodListing database after entering it in the Data entry window or using the Menu Builder.

This will allow the user to double click on a common "Full meal" that he has setup and have it automatically entered into the "Data entry" window along with it's Calorie, Protein, Carb and Fat content. Please see the section on the Menu Builder for more information.

The data comes in ascii format with fixed length records from (?) a government agency whose name I forget and we have no expertise or control over the content. We have converted the data to appear a line at a time. You may add or delete items from these files but you will need to keep the same character postion for each of the fields in the records.

The format is:

  • Food name - 16 chars, position 1 to 16 (Left justified)
  • Portion size - 5 chars, position 17 to 21 (Left justified)
  • Calories - 5 chars, position 22 to 26 (Right justified)
  • Protein - 3 chars, position 27 to 29 (Right justified)
  • Carbs - 4 chars, position 30 to 33 (Right justified)
  • Fat - 3 chars, position 34 to 36 (Right justified)

Example:

Name-of-food PSize CalsProCarbFat 1 2 3 123456789012345678901234567890123456 A16CharacterName1 cup 1035 9 185 38 piecrust mix 2 shl 1485 20 141 93 graham crumbs 1 cup 770 14 140 14 icing chocolate 1 cup 1123 3 208 37 WaynesSuperTaco 1 lrg 1673 91 279 63

Keep in mind when editing these files that they will be overwritten with every new installation or update to BgMetrics. Save your edited files in a backup directory so they can be copied back over the distributed ones after updating this program.
