BgMetrics - Manually Editing "Full Meal" Listings

With the food listing tool it is now possible to point and click updates to your meal data. It is not a perfect system but we have added the ability to add a full meal of information to the FoodListing database after entering it in the Data entry window or using the Menu Builder.

This will allow the user to double click on a common "Full meal" that he has setup and have it automatically entered into the "Data entry" window along with it's Calorie, Protein, Carb and Fat content. Please see the section on the Menu Builder for more information.

In order to allow longer descriptions for Full Meals the "fMeals.pfc" data file is a different format than the other food data files. The data is in ascii format with variable length records. You may add or delete items from this file but you will need to keep a couple of things in mind specifically for this file. The quantities (Cal,Pro,Carb,Fat) are space delimited and the Description is separated from the quantities by an ASCII character that looks like a dash but really isn't. To edit these files you will need a text editor that will allow you to write ASCII chars like this - Hold down the <Alt> key while typing 196 on the keyboard, then release the <Alt> key. The system editors will allow this as well as ours and many others.

The format for the data is quite simple:

KeyWord MealDescription (ASCII 196) Calories Protein Carbs Fat

BreakFast Green eggs and ham, milk - 1035 9 185 38

BreakFast 4 water - 0 0 0 0

Lunch 9 Cream puffs, diet coke - 1485 20 141 93

Dinner Bowl of Graham Ckr Crumbs w/cream, water - 1540 28 280 28

Snack Chocolate cake - 1123 3 208 37

Snack WaynesSuperTaco - 1673 91 279 63

The sort order is not important when editing this file but BgMetrics will sort it automatically whenever it is updated by the program.

What IS important is:

Keep in mind when editing these files that they will be overwritten with every new installation or update to BgMetrics. Save your edited files in a backup directory so they can be copied back over the distributed ones after updating this program.
