KidStreet software - Spelling

KidStreet opens to the main interface which is where the spelling windows reside. There is a spin button in the sidebar to set the length of word used by the program. Youngsters can be started with 1 letter at a time to help them learn to recognize the abc's or use 8 letter words for a better "real life" use of letters and typing skills.

There are 6 areas of importance on the main page:

  1. The exit button is the red arrow located in the lower left corner of the screen. Clicking the arrow will stop all multimedia playback and exit the program.
  2. The help button is the blue question mark located in the lower right corner of the screen and clicking it shows this help.
  3. In the center of the screen is a display of the words or letters that KidStreet is asking your child to spell.
  4. On the lower portion of the screen you will find an entry field where all typed letters are shown.
  5. The SideBar (or menu) is not shown until the mouse is held just off the right edge of the screen. When the mouse is within 10 pixels or so of the screen edge, the SideBar will scroll into view. ( More info on the SideBar selections )
  6. The buttons in the top left corner of the screen will switch to the comparison game, (not implemented yet) spelling or the math functions.

As each word or letter appears in the center of the screen the user will attempt to type it. If a letter that is entered is incorrect the user will recieve a "BooBoo" sound and the incorrect letter will be removed for the user to attempt again.

Once the letters entered match the word in the center of the screen the user recieves a sound of "Affirmation" and the next word is queued. We plan to add a bit more visual stimulation to this in the future.

You may turn the sound on or off and can set whether to use caps or not from the sidebar.

Parents, please see the note on the wordlists.
